Obituary for Earleen "Babe" Whitson

Earleen "Babe" Whitson
Earleen Whitson
Beloved sister and aunt, affectionately known as Babe, passed away on Friday, July 7th of natural causes at the age of 85 years old. Babe was born on August 29, 1931 in Itasca, Texas to Thelma Lucian Cottingame Whitson and Stephen Eldon Whitson.
Babe’s early childhood was spent in Itasca until the family moved to Dallas in the early 1940s. She was considered legally deaf since birth but didn’t let that slow her down. She learned to read lips on her own and people were amazed at her ability to do that from even far away. She graduated from North Dallas High School in June of 1948. After graduation, she went to a technical school and then joined Neiman Marcus working in their general accounting office. She celebrated her 50th anniversary with Neimans and then retired being one of their longest tenured employees.
Babe was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Billie Jean Meeks and husband Bob Meeks, and sister Peggy Joyce Francis and husband Louis Francis. She is survived by brother Kenneth R Whitson and his wife Linda Whitson.
One of her favorite pastimes was spoiling all her 5 nieces Linda Beck, Terry Story, Vicki Dann, Tricia Shoecraft and Sara Thorne and their families. She was a big sports fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys. She also was the family photographer and had us always posing for the next photo opportunity. We have many wonderful family memories captured in film because of her that we still cherish to this day. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 12, at Itasca Cemetery in Itasca, Texas with Chaplain Stephen Schwartz officiating.
