Obituary for Raymond Louis Valenta

Raymond Louis Valenta, 86 died October 7, 2013 at home. He had lived in Irving since 1962. He was born in Taylor, Texas on November 5, 1926. He graduated from Taylor High School where he met Marjorie Sams. He married her in 1945 and they were married for 53 wonderful years. He joined U. S. Air Force, served during World War II, later joined U. S. Army, and retired in 1964. Mr. Valenta was employed by Chief Freight Lines in Dallas, Texas where he worked for over 15 years and retired in 1981. After retirement, he was self-employed for 20 years. He attended All American College in Killeen and Officer Candidate School. He was a Mason for over 60 years, Irving Lodge number 1218. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason and a one time member of the Hella Temple. He is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Sue Valenta of Irving, Son and daughter-in-law David Neal and Leann Valenta of Athens, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Cindy Valenta of Keller, Texas, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Valenta, four grandchildren: Blake, Matthew and his wife Monica, Natalie and Emily; sister-in-law Audrey Valenta of Long Beach, California and brother-in-law Thomas Sams and his wife Gloria of Horse Shoe Bay, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry and his son Donnie. He is also survived by Step children Jim and Sharon Eagan, Suzanne and Jerry Schramm, and Sally and Donnie Davis. Their children include David, Bradley, Kevin, and Callie Eagan, Morgan and Garrett Schramm, and Maddie and Jake Davis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at Plymouth Park Baptist Church 1714 N. Story Road, Irving, Texas on Wednesday at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
