Obituary for James Allen Dreyer

James A. Dreyer of Irving Texas went to be with his God on June 30, 2016 in Irving, Texas James was born in Rowena, Texas on November 13, 1938 to Kenneth Dreyer and Mary Pelzel Dreyer. James was the youngest of 11 children. He grew up loving the outdoors, especially fishing – a love he shared with his daughters. James always had a smile for anyone he met, and never knew a stranger. He joked and kidded his way into the hearts of many, while always taking care of those who needed friendship, a job or just a nice cold beer. He love his Catholic faith and shared it whenever asked; his daughters called him the “Renaissance Man,” because he cultivated theology, philosophy, faith, reason, music, art, physics and gardening. The house was filled with books all of which he perused; he even had his own book store at one time, “The World of Books.” His most important book was his family Bible – filled with notes depicting his own wisdom of life. He especially loved “reverse psychology” which he lovingly tested on his many nieces and nephews. James owned and operated his company, Dreyco for many years. A long time parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church in Irving and was instrumental in the annual Thanksgiving dinner which fed about 400 people; he also managed the annual Fall Festival Auction for many years. James proudly served in the Marine Corp reserves; he loved both God and country, but it was his family that he passionately cherished. The annual Dreyer Family Reunion was his hallmark. He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers Rueben, Olen and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife JoAnne, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage; twin daughters Anne Christine and Elizabeth Marie; brothers Cleo, Louis, Henry and Gene; sisters Lorene, Bernice and Catherine. In Lieu of flowers, donations to his favorite charities would be appreciated: St. Jude Children’s Hospital and EWTN World Wide Catholic Network. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday July 5, 2016 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday July 6, 2016 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Richard Bezzegato officiating.
