Obituary for Merle O. Heldman

Merle O. Heldman was born May 29, 1940, in Marietta, Ohio and passed away on August 25, 2016, in Irving, Texas. He was the son of the late Bernard S. and Miriam E. Heldman. He is survived by his wife Kay Heldman, children Chris Heldman, Leslie Torgerson, Patti Hodges, Jon Waggoner, Jason Waggoner and Stacey Stull. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren. Merle is also survived by his only brother Gene Heldman, numerous nieces and nephews, other loving friends and family members. Merle graduated from Ohio State University in 1963 and served as LTJG in the United States Navy for four years. He worked as a pharmacist in Irving for over 40 years. Merle gave countless hours of his life volunteering for The Irving Jaycees, Boys and Girls Club of Irving, Salvation Army of Irving, Coats for Kids Project and Stipes Elementary Library. Merle earned the following honors and awards: Key Man for the Irving Jaycees in 1970-1971, 6 Gallon Blood Donor Award in 1996, PTA Lifetime Member and The 2015 Albert E. Reaud Leadership in Service Award for the Salvation Army and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Family suggest in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Salvation Army of Irving or any charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 10, 2016 with visitation an hour prior to the service at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home in Irving, TX.
