Services will be held Monday, November 21, 2016, 11:00 am at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home in Irving. Rita is predeceased by husband Jack William, grandson Joel Hardin and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughters Jeri Ann Anderson and Betty Jean Carlyle; son James William; 3 grandsons Scott, John and Stephen Hardin; 6 great grandchildren Audrey, Ava, Abby, Emma, Cade and Colt Hardin; sons in law Bob Anderson and Buck Carlyle and her daughter in law Donna Hardin, whom were dearly beloved by Rita and they her. Rita was born on December 28, 1917, near Hiattville, Kansas to second generation German immigrant farmers, Frederick and Pearl (Runkle) Elbrader. She was the first in her family to attend and graduate from high school, following which she took a test to become a school teacher at a rural one-room school house. A few years later, she took a job as a nanny while attending Draughns Business College in Wichita, KS. After graduating, she became a secretary for oil company. Rita soon married Jack Hardin, who was in the aircraft industry, causing them to move to Omaha Nebraska, then to Fort Worth. In 1950 they transferred to Dallas, but made Irving their home. She became an active member of the first Presbyterian Church of Irving and became a Brownie and then Girl Scout Leader. She attended North Texas State College and became a dietician for the Irving School District. Following this, she went to work for the new JC Penny store in Plymouth Park as office manager; working there until her retirement at age 82. In 1980, she became actively engaged in the Calvary Church in Irving, she was a passionate follower of Christ. Rita is best known for her love of God, people, her family and having fun. After her husband passed away in 1959, she began ballroom dancing and went dancing several times a week until her partners passed away. She ascribes dancing as a reason for her longevity. Rita was very passionate about her family and devoted all of her later years to them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
