Obituary for David Benjamin Burnett

David Benjamin Burnett
David Benjamin Burnett, a longtime Irving resident, died Friday, December 2, 2016 at the age of 73. David passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with Melanoma. David was born on June 10, 1943 to John Dial and Helen Jeannette (Cox) Burnett in Dallas, Texas. After graduating from Samuell High School in Dallas, David attended Henderson County Junior College on a full music scholarship. During the Vietnam War, David served honorably in the United States Army Intelligence Corp at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. He then resumed his academics by pursuing a bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University in Denton, and later took courses from Texas Baptist Bible College in Arlington. David held various management positions during his career in the freight industry until his retirement. Offering his service to a Dallas prison ministry, teaching Sunday school, and singing in his church choir brought him joy over the course of his life. An avid reader, David also loved the outdoors and any opportunity to spend time with his family. He was a devoted Christian, father, grandfather and friend. David is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers John, Paul and Michael Burnett; his niece Becky Burnett Crews; nephews Troy and Greg Burnett. Those left to cherish and honor his legacy are his two children, daughter Kim Burnett Kirk and husband Jonathan, of Irving; son David Anthony Burnett and wife Brenda of Katy, and their mother Beatrice Sanchez and husband Adolph of Arlington; five grandchildren, Ethan James and Katelyn Kirk, Emily and Peyton Burnett, and their mother Renee Lopez; nephew John Burnett Jr. and wife Lola; niece Paula Burnett Cotten; nephew Paul Burnett Jr. and wife Shawnteh along with numerous other extended family members and many beloved friends. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 1:30 pm, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Honorary Pallbearers include Pastor Scott Mayfield, lifelong friend, Rex Lawrence, and brothers-in-law Ruben and Robert Garces.
