Obituary for Harry Weaver

Harry Weaver
Harry Lee Weaver went to his Lord and Savior on December 16, 2016. He was born on January 24, 1932 to Raymond and Florence “Kit” Weaver in Noblesville, Indiana and grew up in Hagerstown, Indiana. Harry served in the USN during the Korean Conflict prior to graduating from Butler University. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Hensley, in 1956. Harry spent most of his professional life in some form of sales and was the consummate salesman. For several years he served as Chairman of the Ted Williams Sports Advisory Staff at Sears. Harry moved his family to Dallas from the Chicago area in 1978 for an opportunity to run a sporting goods company, but eventually switched careers at the age of 47 to become a stockbroker. He quickly jumped up the ladder to be one of the top brokers for Dean Witter. Harry had a life-long love of golf and recently rekindled his passion for bridge, but his true love always was his family. Harry and Marilyn raised two children and Harry served with steadfast devotion as Marilyn’s caregiver during her long battle with juvenile diabetes ending in her death in 2000. Harry was blessed to find true love a second time and married Kay McGranahan in 2001. Harry and Kay lived in Irving in the company of numerous, wonderful friends. They enjoyed taking cruises and traveled to NYC annually for a tour of Broadway productions. In Irving, Harry was active in the Las Colinas C.C., where he often could be found holding court with his buddies at the Table of Knowledge. He was also a member of the board of the Irving Healthcare Foundation and served as a volunteer driver transporting elderly patients. Harry never met a stranger and always cared enough to remember everyone’s name. Harry is survived by his cherished wife, Kay, brother-in-law Dawyne Bragg and his wife Gail, children Julie Woodward and John Weaver, son-in-law, Jim Woodward, daughter-in-law, Ellen Weaver, stepson Mike Scruggs and his wife Cathy, stepdaughter Angie Thurman and her husband Mark, and grandchildren Jamie Woodward, Jack Woodward and his wife Leah, Jodie Loose and her husband Davis, Harper Weaver and his wife Anna, Harry Weaver and his wife Laura, Hayden Weaver, Molly Nelson and her husband Josh, Madi Scruggs, Haley Thurman, Megan Thurman and Nick Thurman, and two great-grandchildren, Avery Grace Woodward and Lily Marie Weaver. A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at Plymouth Park Methodist Church in Irving on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Irving Cares.
