Obituary for Billy L. Welborn

Billy L.  Welborn
Billy Luther Welborn was born January 14, 1920, in Tarrant, Texas, and passed away on January 14, 2017. He was a very good man, loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Billy lived the majority of his life in Irving, Texas. He joined the Air Force on October 12, 1942, was a B-17 tail gunner during World War II, and was awarded the Air Medal and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters for meritorious action over Germany. He was discharged on September 17, 1945, with a rank of Staff Sergeant. After having had a variety of jobs after the war, he started Welborn Draperies and owned his own business for 35 years. He was privileged to go on an Honor Flight for WWII veterans in Washington, DC, in June of 2005, with son-in-law, Ed Harrison, as his escort. He was married to Imogene Jackson Welborn from December 23, 1942, until her death on May 9, 2000. He later met Nancy Stephens Roman and they were married from August 5, 2002, until his death on his 97th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Elizabeth Rogers Welborn; his first wife Gene Welborn; son Ronny D. Welborn; 9 siblings; and grandson Richard E. LaTour. Billy leaves behind to cherish his memories wife Nancy Stephens Roman Welborn; daughter Donna Welborn Bringewald and husband Peter; Nancy’s children Trish Roman Harrison and husband Ed; Mike Roman and wife Nancy; Cindy Roman LaTour and Richard Roman; grandchildren Zachary Welborn and wife Meredith; Brian Harrison and wife Tara; Kari Harrison Rhodes and husband John; Kelly Harrison Howe and husband Mark; Chris Roman and wife Ashley; Daniel Roman; Becca Roman; Kendra LaTour Wallace and husband Shawn; Jeff LaTour and wife Jaimee; Reid Roman; Cassie Roman Mason and husband Lex; Caroline Roman along with 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10:30 am, Friday, January 27, 2017, Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home in Irving, Texas. An inurnment with Military Honors at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery will be held at a later date still pending. “In lieu of flowers, please donate to Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas, in Billy Welborn’s name.
