Condolences

Condolence From: Natasha Porter
Condolence: I had the honor of working closely with Jim over the past 15 years during his time at General Electric.

I started with GE EHS in the late 90s and will never forget my first trip to the Dallas Service Center to work with Jim. I was fresh out of college, starting my EHS career with GE, and charged with getting Jim up to speed on Gensuite, specifically working with him to implement the Gensuite Compliance Calendar application. I remember showing up bright and early with my computer in hand, ready to understand more about the on-going tasks and compliance obligations that the Dallas Service center needed to comply with and to get those loaded into the Compliance Calendar tool. I walked into the facility, met with Jim and the first thing he said to me was “Have you ever been out on a shop floor? Do you know what we do here?”, my answers to those questions were No so Jim politely handed me a pair of safety glasses asked me to put on my steel toed shoes and off to the shop floor we went. We spent the entire day walking around the shop floor and I learned so much about service operations, hazards, the importance of effective safety and environmental programs. We didn’t have any time for Compliance Calendar that day but I told Jim not to worry, that I would be back. He nodded and gave me the typical Jim look that he gave everyone when he wasn’t sold on something. After a few more visits to the Dallas Service Center I would say I was victorious, I got Jim up and running with Compliance Calendar and he became one of the biggest advocates for Gensuite applications based on what it was doing to help his site manage all of the various compliance and program requirements. We continued to work closely together over the years as we expanded Gensuite, he provided us with invaluable inputs on designs for new applications, feedback on what worked and what didn’t, and personally championed Gensuite with EHS colleagues across his network.

Jim was an amazing mentor and coach to me and many others who he worked with over the years. I know that I speak for everyone who had the opportunity to work with Jim that we will miss him dearly. My deepest condolences go out to Jim's friends and entire family.

Condolence: It is with our deepest sympathies that we send you our thoughts and prayers on the passing of Jim. I have known Jim from when I first came to the company over 17 years ago when we met at a VPP event. I came to rely on him as a wealth of knowledge, a spokesperson, a person of trust. Jim held a compassion not only for safety and health in the workplace but for his fellow workers and anyone he met. He was a gentleman, a passionate professional, and a friend. He will be missed by all that knew him. I am sure that he would want everyone to celebrate all of the great times we had together and to remember those times as we come together to celebrate his life and mourn his passing.
To Jim's family, please accept our deepest condolences on your loss.
