Obituary for Henry Smilie

Henry  Smilie
Henry Smilie of Irving passed away April 9, 2017. He was born on August 25, 1920 in Milam County, Texas to Robert Lee and Barbara M. (Taylor) Smilie. Henry owned and operated Henry’s Barber Shop retiring in April of 2014 after 65 years in business. He served in the United States Army during WWII as a Military Policeman and was in the Fourth Wave in Normandy France during The D-Day Invasion. He also fought in the Golden Gloves during his service in the Army. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 64 years, Maudie, and the Smilie twins. Left behind to cherish his memory are son, Dr. Bruce Smilie and wife Tina; daughter, Candace Gibbons; grandchildren Brett, Brittany, Jordan and Trent Smilie; Christopher Gibbons; Bubba Gibbons and wife Mariah; William Gibbons and wife Monique; great-grandchildren Hannah Gibbons-Perez; Hayden Gibbons, Noah Gibbons and Whitney Gibbons. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with
Dr. Bruce Smilie officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
