Obituary for O.L. 'Butch' Murden

O.L. 'Butch'  Murden
O.L. ‘Butch’ Murden, Irving resident for forty-eight years, died surrounded by his family the evening of April 14, 2017 in Irving. Butch was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 1, 1943 to parents Ormond Linwood Murden and Ethel (Anderson) Murden. Butch was a constant giver to the community serving in military, public safety, civic and fraternal organizations including: United States Air Force from 1961-1966 then serving in the Reserves until 1975, then enlisting to serve in the Army Reserves in 1976 until 1979; served with the Norfolk (VA) Police Department for three years before coming to Texas and joining the Irving Police Department as an Officer for 11 years, then serving as a Civilian Supervisor in the Property Evidence Department for 13 years retiring in 2006; active member of First United Methodist Church, Irving as a part of the Wednesday Work Crew and Pathfinders Sunday School Class; Irving Masonic Lodge #1218 A.F. & A.M.; James O. Callan Da-Lite Dallas Lodge 1422 A.F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite Valley of Dallas; Hella Shrine; Love Field York Rite Bodies, Dallas Commandry #6; Irving AMBUCS; and recently the Irving Elks Lodge. Butch was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda of 51½ years whom he met while they both were serving in the Air Force; daughter Kim Keefer and husband Milton of Noblesville, IN; son Keith Murden of Grand Prairie; one brother and three sisters Michael Murden and wife Denise, Jerald Hudson, Dorothy Stanulis and husband Jimmy and Ginger Wilkerson and husband Charles, all of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren Melinda Reeves and husband Matt, Brandon Murden and Taylor Murden; and great granddaughter Makenzie Reeves and great grandson Broderick Reeves. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will occur on Wednesday at 11:00 at First United Methodist Church, 211 West Third Street in Irving. Masonic Services will be rendered at the conclusion of the church services. Burial will follow with Military Honors presented at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving. Family requests memorials to Irving Masonic Lodge #1218 A.F. & A.M.
