Crowley — Lawrence “Larry” Porter, 83, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Baylor All Saints Medical Center, following his battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Mr. Porter leaves behind his cherished wife of 62 years, Shirley Irene (Weber) Porter; three brothers, Leo, Joseph, and Johnny; one sister, Elizabeth; three children, Gayle, Anthony, and Kenneth; two daughters-in-law; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many close friends. He joins in heaven his parents, Elizabeth and Everett Porter; two brothers, Edward and Elmer; and three sisters, Anne, Dorothy, and Theresa. Mr. Porter owned and operated Porter’s Army Navy Store in Irving, Texas for many years, as well as a firearm dealer, selling unique guns at gun shows across the state. He then retired to become a cattle rancher in Palo Pinto, Texas. His passion for sales and trading stemmed from his genuine care for his fellowman and his sincere desire to be surrounded by his friends and family. A devout Catholic, Mr. Porter was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Porter was known throughout North Texas as a respected and trustworthy businessman with a quick wit and unending kindness. But above all else, he was an honest, God-fearing man who lived Christ’s call to love the church and his family with his whole heart. A rosary will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Ben F. Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home of Irving, and the funeral service will be held at Calvary Hill Mausoleum of Dallas on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
