Obituary for Bennie Joe Lemons

Bennie Joe Lemons
Bennie Joe Lemons, age 90, of Irving, Texas passed away peacefully on May 30, 2017.

Born in Sterling, Comanche County, Oklahoma on September 21, 1926, to Robert Lloyd and Mary Alice (“Allie”) (McClure) Lemons, Bennie was raised there by his parents with his ten brothers and sisters. He was a veteran of the Armed Services, having honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy Seabees on the island of Okinawa in WWII. After the war, he worked many years as a transport driver, salesman and sales terminal manager in the industrial solvents business, in later years coming to own and operate his own business before retiring to Irving in 1992.

Bennie became a Christian at a young age and for the remainder of his life loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart, forever placing all of his hope and trust in Him. Upon retiring to Irving, he became a faithful member of MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church. Always looking on the bright side of every day and counting his blessings with thankfulness, he quickly came to be loved and admired by anyone who ever met him for his quiet, kind and loving demeanor.

Bennie and Ramona Dean (Manning) Lemons, his loving wife of 69 years, were married on March 22, 1948, in Brownfield, Texas, and she survives him. In their later retirement years he devoted all he had within himself to taking care of her and loving her until the very end.

He is preceded in death by his parents, seven of his brothers and sisters, and his eldest son, Dennis Joe Lemons, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona Lemons, of Irving, Texas; two brothers and a sister; son Billy K. Lemons of Nacogdoches, Texas; son Sammy L. Lemons and wife, Debbie, of Abilene, Texas; daughter-in-law Monica (Lemons) Peelman and husband Eddie of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jodi Lemons, Amanda Soto and husband Robert, Dennis Joe Lemons, Jr., and wife Lisa, Heath Lemons, Heather Bryant and husband Mitch, and Travis Lemons; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home in Irving, Texas, with Pastor Josh Smith officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Pallbearers will be Heath Lemons, Dennis Lemons Jr., Gary Cochran, Steve Lemons, Cliff Clifton and Argus Beggs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Bugles Across America, or any U.S. Military Veteran’s charity of choice, or any Christian children’s or other Christian charity of choice.
