Obituary for Juanita Fischer (White)

We celebrate the life of Mary Juanita Fischer, 90, who passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on June 7, 2017. Juanita was born on May 1, 1927, in Ponder, Texas. She grew up during the Great Depression and early on learned discipline and a good strong work ethic. She attended school in the Denton county area where she loved team sports, especially volleyball, and graduated salutatorian of her Krum High School class. In her early twenties, Juanita moved to Grand Prairie where she met and married the love of her life Davis Hines Fischer. “Dave” and Juanita embarked on a life together that spanned nearly 60 years and included six children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Together they opened and operated the first Century 21 real estate sales office in Irving in the late sixties. Juanita and Dave appreciated the great outdoors, and at the first sign of spring each year, the couple would head to the nearest lake for black bass fishing, occasionally traveling to Mexico and Central America to try their luck there. They were true conservationists before conservation became cool, over the years distributing hundreds of pine saplings to friends, neighbors, and clients. Today the tiny saplings are thriving and tower over most of the homes where they were planted in south Irving neighborhoods.
In her retirement years, Juanita enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and cooking. She was well known among her family and friends for her “down home cooking.” No one ever left her house hungry. In the later years Juanita enjoyed cooking for charity fundraisers, preparing meals for volunteers in walks and runs with organizations such as the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Juanita is survived by one son Jerry Fischer and wife Marilyn of Lufkin, Texas; her daughters Judy Jones of Terrell, Texas, Linda and Sheila Fischer of Irving, Texas; and Delores (Dee) Norris and husband Mark of Irving, Texas; Juanita was predeceased in death by her beloved “Dave”, by her parents Sylvester and Lillie White, one brother Houston White, and one daughter Joan Hatcher.

Services will be Saturday, June 10, at 11 AM, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in Irving. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that you make a donation in Juanita’s memory to your favorite charity or First United Methodist Church of Irving.
