Obituary for Richard Smith Gentry

Richard Smith Gentry
Richard was born August 21, 1950 in Dallas, Texas to Thomas Gentry and Wilma Smith Gentry. Richard grew up in Irving, lived in Bedford, and spent the past several years at his home in Blue Mountain, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. Richard was in the car and truck sales business for forty years. His love of books and reading only added to his brilliant mind. He was a terrific cook, and for those who never tasted his smoked ribs and Texas potato salad, you missed a treat. Richard was, as friends and family knew, "always right." His dry wit endeared him to many, and his vast knowledge astounded. He lived life on his own terms, and a colorful life it was for him and his friends. Richard is survived by his daughter, Jessica Gentry, and grandson, Dylan Splawn; his son, Tommy Gentry; his sister, Trudy Gentry; his cousin, Lois Hardenbrook; and his extended family in Arkansas: Elaine Lippard, Kyle and Kelsey Lippard, Billy Hoover, Justin and Bonnie Lippard, JR and Lisa Hampton, Justin and Lesley Andrews, JoDonn and Laura Elder, and June Roberts. From his family and friends: "We love you, Gentry." A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Ratliff officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Bedford Animal Shelter at 1809 Reliance Parkway, Bedford, TX 76021.
