Obituary for Bill Smith

Billy D. Smith, age 79, died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, Sunday, August 6, 2017 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Dallas, Texas to William Henry and Fronia (Morgan) Smith on October 29, 1937. He was a member of the United States Army, where he served as an atomic weapon assembler. Bill previously spent 60 plus years in Irving, where he worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, until his retirement in 1992. He and Fay had just moved back to Jasper a year ago to be closer and spend more time with their grandsons. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed fishing during his free time. He is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 57 years, Ilah “Fay” Smith; daughter Jamie Smith White and husband Tim; grandsons Justin David and Jayden Cash White along with numerous extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, August 11, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving Texas, with interment at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens immediately following. A visitation will be held before the funeral on Friday, August 11, 2017 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.
