Obituary for Andres Nieves Cabrera

Andres Nieves Cabrera, age 95, entered Heavens Gates on Monday, September 18, 2017. Andres was born October 4, 1921 in Puerto Rico. He married the beautiful Bienvenida Nieves on December 8, 1945, and they moved to Irving, Texas in 1968. Andres bravely served in the U.S. Army as a radar specialist, from 1944 until his retirement in 1967; serving during World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Wars.
Andres had a knack for making everyone feel loved even when he made fun of them; he taught his children, grandchildren and then his great-grandchildren that life was about relishing in the time you have with family because life is too short. He enjoyed gardening, gambling, and watching the Dallas Cowboys in his free time. To his great grandchildren he was known as “Grandpa Who Yells All The Time” because he was hard of hearing. Despite the sorrow he experienced in his lifetime he remained his joyful, buoyant, and resilient self.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bienvenida Nieves; daughter Nilda Nieves Robinson; son Jorge Nieves and grandson Blake Robinson. Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy is his son Carlos Nieves and wife Brenda; daughter Kelly Moore; 2 grandsons Travis Moore and Christopher Nieves; 2 granddaughters Christy Farina and husband Craig and Rachelle Moore; 5 great-grandsons Christopher Bustillos, Tyler Williams, Landen Farina, Jessie Robinsons and Levon Wade Denker; 3 great granddaughters Christen Bustillos, Hailie Robinson and Elizabeth Robinson along with numerous extended family. The family will receive friends between 1:00 and 3:00 pm, Friday, September 22, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Irving, followed by a committal service with Full Military Honors at 3:30 pm, Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane in Dallas.
