Obituary for Mary Janice Summers (Landess)

Mary Janice Summers, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in Katy, TX surrounded by her family. Mary Janice was born on March 30, 1929 in Hester, OK to Alva and Ara (Bennett) Landess. Janice was the first person in her family to graduate college. She achieved her Bachelor of Education degree in 1963 from North Texas State University in Denton, TX. In 1966 she received her Master of Education degree with honors. She either taught or was principal in an education career spanning 30 years with Irving ISD. Janice was a servant of the Lord, living and teaching Christian principles her entire life. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond description. People who knew her, loved and admired her deeply. She left her mark on the hearts of so very many who will miss her but are confident and joyous that she is with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry of 57 years; brothers Bill, “Tag”, and Bennet Landess. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Judy Summers; son Mac Summers; granddaughter Jill Schultze Conley; grandson Sam Schultze and wife Emily; great grandchildren Mary Creech, James Conley, Bella Schultze, and Hudson Schultze. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 13, 2017 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church 211 W. Third Street Irving, TX officiated by Rev. Sammy Hargrove. The family will receive friends and family an hour prior to the funeral service at 10:00 A.M. also at the church. The interment will be private. If you so choose, memorial donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
