Obituary for George "Poppy" Hearn

George "Poppy"  Hearn
George “Poppy” Hearn, age 88, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 2, 2017. He was born in Dallas, Texas to Jowel Monroe and Lillie Elsie (Schmalriade) Hearn on September 9, 1929. Poppy joined the United States Army in 1948, and was honorable discharged in 1951. During his time of service, he earned and was presented many medals, including the prestigious Purple Heart. Poppy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family, and fishing. He is preceded in death by both parents, brothers Jowel “Bobby” M. Hearn Jr., Billy J. Hearn and Paul A. Hearn and sister Gloria J. “Jeannie” Hammer. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 57 years, Virginia (Francis) Hearn; sister Pauline King; daughter Georgina “Susie” Waugh and husband Ed; son George A. Hearn; son Gene A. Hearn and wife Beverly; son Greg A. Hearn and wife Julie; 8 grandchildren, Jana, Edward, Aubry, Amber, Bethany, Kasey, Brittany and Brandey; 4 great grandchildren Karli, Zachary, Bella and Benjamin as well as numerous extended family and loving friends.
