Dorothy Matthews, age 91, peacefully passed from this life on February 16, 2018. Dorothy was born on March 13, 1926 in Turkey, Texas to George Frank Martin and Edna Viola (Bloxom) Martin. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved spending time with family and fixing wonderful meals for family. She adored all her grandkids. Dorothy loved doing ceramics, paintings, crochet, and going to the senior citizen center. Dorothy was the last surviving member of the generation of the Matthews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, first husband Archie Matthews, daughter Marie McDonald, son Dennis Matthews, grandson Tony McDonald, great-grandson Korey Parker, and best friend Dorothy Walters. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Gloria Stanley, Patricia Fouts-Owens, Sandra Ward; son Archie Matthews; grandson Rocky Stanley, granddaughters Tina White, Kristy Bush, Tammy Parker, Brandy Hughes, Angie Desmarais, Shelly Freesene, great-grandkids Chad White, Shane White, Stoney Stanley, Talon and Kylie Bush, Kalya Parker, Joey, Caitlyn, Krisha, and Bethany Freesene,Tiffany McDonald; great-great-grandkids Cougar White, Riggins White, and Cameron Losure; and brother Odis Martin the last surviving member of the Martin family, and numerous other family members and friends. A funeral service is being held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church 4034 W. Pioneer Drive, Irving, TX 75061 with an interment immediately following at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens 1413 E. Irving Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Prayer Pal Ministry at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
