Obituary for Billy "Bill" Fletcher

Billy "Bill"  Fletcher
Billy “Bill” Fletcher of Irving went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 14, 2018. Bill was 88 years of age. He was born in Dallas, Texas on July 18, 1930 to Carl R. and Ludie Mae Fletcher. Bill went to Sunset High School. He graduated from Howard College in Big Spring and then attended Lamar Tech in Beaumont, Texas.
He returned to Big Spring and worked for Phillips Tire Company for a year and then returned to Dallas where he was employed by a paint company. In 1952, he returned to Big Spring where he married Lindel Gross and they made their home in Dallas until 1956. They then moved to Irving where they have remained. Bill and Lindel joined Plymouth Park Baptist Church in 1956. Bill started teaching Sunday School in the Pre-School area and taught for forty plus years. He is an active Deacon and was elected Life Deacon in 2001.
Bill went to work for the City of Irving where he was Director of Building Inspections for over 30 years. He was President of the Building Official Association of Texas (BOAT) in 1977. He retired in 1993. After he retired he served on the Planning and Zoning Board for 6 years. He kept busy and involved in City activities for several years after retirement.
He was named Track Sweetheart of the Irving Girls Track Team for 1981–1982 at Irving High School.
He is in the Joyful Noise Sr. Adult Choir at Plymouth Park Baptist Church and is a member of the Joy Group. He is a member of Jerry Christian’s Sunday School Class. He is a member of the Tuesday morning prayer group. He has served on the Nominating Committee at Plymouth Park Baptist Church and he has also served on the Building and Grounds Committee of the Church. He is a member of Irving Christian Anglers.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ludie Fletcher, sister Peggy Jo Burden and younger brother, Donald L. Fletcher.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lindel, daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Les Bell, son, James C. Fletcher, Trevor Confer, daughter Nancy C. Chapman, Crystal Graham, affectionately known as Sugarfoot, grandson, Caleb Fletcher, brother, Dan R. Fletcher, sister-in-law, Clo Jean Fletcher and a host of nieces and nephews along with many friends and associates.
Ben F. Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. A family visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 2 PM to 4 PM.
A memorial service will be at Plymouth Park Baptist Church at 11 AM on Monday, August 20, 2018 with Ken Branam and Bob Harper officiating.
Private burial will be at Oak Grove in Irving prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Plymouth Park Baptist Church (designate for Joy, Library or Fund the Vision), American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or Irving Healthcare Foundation
The family of Bill Fletcher would like to acknowledge and express gratitude to the staff of Avante Rehabilitation Center and owner Philip Prince, Ardent Hospice and its caretakers and the doctors, nurses and employees of Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Irving. Your care and compassion lifted the Fletcher family during the very difficult times of Bill’s illness. And those that visited or called to offer words of encouragement and those friends that prayed for Bill and his family, thank you. The family is touched by your actions.
