Obituary for Bobby John Collvins

Bobby John Collvins, age 81 of Mt. Vernon, Tx. Passed away peacefully in his sleep at 2:02 in the afternoon of Sunday, September 16, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bobby was born on January 30, 1937 in Bowie County, Tx to the late Frankie and Viola Harris Collvins.

Bobby married the love of his life and best friend Hazel Dean Herrington, on October 28, 1955 at her parents home in Irving, Tx. Together they have shared nearly 63 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories. Bobby was a dedicated husband and father who knew the value of a hard days work but also knew the importance of time with his family.

He attended Spring Hill High School and held a few odd jobs before beginning his life long career with Texas Power and Light in 1963. His family is very proud of the accomplishments he achieved without a higher education. Throughout his dedicated career, Bobby always worked at doing more to provide for his beloved family. He always had a side job going and spent countless nights and weekends providing cable television lines to private homes throughout the DFW area. Bobby retired from TP&L in 1992, at which time he and Hazel moved to Scroggins, Texas.

He and Hazel spend many summers travelling and enjoying their retirement in Colorado and other areas the motor home would take them. In retirement Bobby and Hazel joined Pine Street Baptist Church in Winnsboro where he held position as a Deacon.

Those who knew Bobby best will always remember him as a man who was the ultimate provider for his family and a man whose bad days were only the days he sat and realized he didn’t accomplish much that day. He wanted to be productive most of all.

Bobby enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his shop. His best memories came while spending time with friends and family at the deer lease where he had hunted for 60 years. There he could relax, enjoy his friends and family and enjoy life. In his later years he loved sneaking a Diet Mt. Dew, a Snickers Bar or a bag full of peanut brittle.
Bobby leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his family, pride in his work and a devotion to his Lord that all should strive to follow.
