Obituary for Jimmy Don Lackey

Jimmy Don Lackey, age 72, awoke in Heaven on Sunday, September 16, 2018. He was born in Haskell, Tx to Lewis Raye Lackey and Mary Retta (Fulbright) Lackey on Wednesday, March 6, 1946. Jim was a family man who will be remembered for how he revered his parents, how much he loved his siblings, and how he cared for and loved his children and grandchildren.

Jim was a great provider who took his responsibilities very seriously, taking on part-time jobs when needed. Jim was highly intelligent and well respected by his peers and friends. His friends and co-workers talk of how Jim was an expert at his craft and a man of integrity. His friends and family tell how they could always depend on him to be there when they needed him.

Jim worked at the City of Irving for 25 years and was known as a mentor and a man of integrity to his co-workers and associates. His hobbies included reading, fishing, listening to country music, garage selling, and collecting books and other items.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brother Ronnie and sister Sandy. Left to cherish his memory is son Ron Lackey and wife Kim; daughter Rene Lackey; grandchildren Heather Lackey, Austin Lackey, Bryanna Silsby and husband Skylar, and Maranda Nelson; great-grandchildren Madison Lackey and Emmalyn Silsby; sister Jan Perkins; sister Linda Jones; former spouse and close friend Fran Land; along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and loving friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church at 403 Main St. in Irving.
