Obituary for Roy Worthy

Roy  Worthy
Roy Worthy, age 88, awoke in Heaven on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. He was born in Troup, Texas to John and Pearl (Ward) Worthy on Thursday, December 26, 1929. Roy has been an Irving Resident for the last 5 years. Before moving to Irving, Roy lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he worked 30 years for the United States Postal service, until his retirement in 1984. Roy was a part of the 4% of Boy Scouts who earned the rank Eagle Scout. Later, he went on to proudly served in the United States Armed Forces, serving 1 year in the Army and 3 years in the Air Force; receiving an honorable discharge in 1952. Roy, stayed busy and active within many aspects of the community, working with the Disabled American Veterans Assoc., volunteered with Meals on Wheels, volunteered as an AARP Officer, and served as Deacon at 1st Christian Church of Fort Smith. As a natural born athlete, Roy somehow always managed to find spare time for sports such as baseball in 1946, when he played for the American Legion Jr. Bathers; in the 1950’s he was a member of the Comets during the Army basketball tournament, and last but not least becoming an amateur bowler within his league. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jane Worthy, brothers Robert and Ray Ward, and brother Johnny Worthy. Left to cherish his memory are wife Alice Worthy; daughter Clarine Henson; son Don Worthy; son John Aiken; son Gary Aiken; sister Kathleen Lovejoy; sister Opal Ward; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren as well as numerous extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving, between 6:00 and 8:00pm, on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. A committal service with Military Honors will take place 11:00am, Friday, September 28, 2018 at Fort Smith National Cemetery, 522 S. 6th Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
