Obituary for Tom T. Fullerton

Print
Tom T. Fullerton of Irving passed away March 30, 2017 in Carrollton. He was born on July 12, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jewel Clifford and Mamie (Treece) Fullerton. Tom grew up in a still rural Oklahoma City; he delivered the local newspaper on horseback, folding and throwing each paper "frisbee-style". His family was active in the 12th and Drexel Church of Christ and he chose to attend Abilene Christian College to major in Bible. Those plans were interrupted by the death of his father and the onset of the Korean War. Tom joined the Air Force and served as a radio mechanic stateside. After returning to ACC to complete his studies, he met and married the love of his life, Lucy Hamilton of Boles Children Home in Quinlan, TX. Tom then dedicated his life to commitment - commitment to his Christian faith, his wife of 62 years, Boles Home, his children & their families, his clients and colleagues in the incentive travel business, and all the children and employees of the school started by he and Lucy. He was a founding member and eventually elder of Central Church of Christ in Irving where he taught Bible classes and occasionally filled in as preacher. He was dedicated to fostering healthy families and served as minister for over 35 couples as they married. He served on the board of Christian Works and Boles Home for Children and was president of the Boles Alumni Association. In business, his goal was always relationship over profit or sales goals. He and his college friends, John & Stan Fredrick, started Fullrick Enterprises, selling cookware in the Dallas area. Eventually, he transitioned to the Incentive travel business with S&H Green Stamps and Business Incentives. This lead to a life of international travel for he and Lucy, as well as their children and grandchildren. As their children moved on to lives of their own, Tom and Lucy decided to work together in starting a new business, childcare. Over the years, this grew into a school of over 100 children. More importantly, this became a place of safety and growth for these children and the employees of Hamilton Academy. After 25 years of service, Tom and Lucy sold Hamilton Academy and retired to a time of service in their community and soaking up the joys of their 10 granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren. Tom participated in a discussion group for decades with dear friends, Ken Rogers, Marshal Wilson, James Bass, Stan Fredrick and others. Most recently, Tom & Lucy have attended the Plymouth Park Church of Christ in Irving and have enjoyed new friends and community at The Chateau on Wildbriar Lake. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother. Left to cherish his memory are wife Lucy Fullerton of Irving; daughter Shawna Fullerton-Wolf and Shawna’s children Haley, Karissa and Alaina; son Brad Fullerton, M.D. and wife Holly of Austin and their children Katharine Fullerton McNiel and husband David; and Grace Fullerton; son Cliff Fullerton M.D. and wife Beth of Parker, Texas and their children Jenny Fullerton-Thompson, and husband Chris; Melanie Fullerton; and Cara Fullerton Pierson and husband C. J.; son Doug Fullerton M.D. and wife Terri of Abilene, Texas and their children Rebecca Fullerton-Kempe and husband David; and Anna Cherie Fullerton; great-grandchildren Jude, Madelynn and Kai Thompson, children of Jenny and Chris Thompson; and former son in law Michael Wolf. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Riverside Church of Christ in Coppell at 150 East Beltline Road with John Ketchersid officiating.
