Obituary for Novice "Nick" Dee Nicholson

Novice “Nick” Dee Nicholson was born on June 19, 1944 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Novice Herman and Cora Dee (Stokes) Nicholson. He was raised in Plainview, Texas. He died on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in Irving. Novice is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ann Williams Nicholson; son Ryan Lee Nicholson and wife Darci; son Robert “Robbie” Novice Nicholson and wife Rachel; daughter Lyndee Ann Hayes and husband Timothy; brother Richard Lee Nicholson; sister in law Lynne Williams Hodges and husband Jeff; six grandchildren Rylee Jo Nicholson, Austin Cole Nicholson (Ryan), Carter Dee Nicholson, Cali Marie Nicholson (Robbie), Kenon Brant Hayes and Cora Ann Hayes (Lyndee); nephew Keith Hodges; niece Kellie Hodges along with numerous extended family and friends.
God placed Novice and Ann at First United Methodist Church of Irving in 1971, and they have been members of the Kum Double Sunday School class. Novice taught Sunday School at every level, including teaching each of his children. He founded and was president of the United Methodist Men, and was a founder and fundraiser of the Family Life Center. Novice served the church in many various roles which included Stewardship Chairman, Finance Chairman, President of the Administration Board and a member of the Pastor Parish Committee.
Novice had an obvious love of sports and believed in living life to the fullest. He was gifted in many ways, including business, leadership, servitude and enthusiasm. The church was number one in his life, followed by his love of family, friends and sports. Novice always lived by the motto, “God first, family second, all else after.”

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church, 211 West 3rd St. in Irving with interment at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens immediately following. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the funeral service for visitation.
