Condolences

Condolence From: Mike Jackson
Condolence: It was with great sadness that I just learned of Coach Hamberger's passing. I played on the Irving High School football team during the 1965 season, and was fortunate to have as a coach. Great memories. I am grateful that I was able to speak with Coach at my 50th high school reunion, in 2016. I am fortunate to have had him as such a great influence in my high school athletic career.

Condolence: John Hamberger was a fine man and an amazing principal. I chose to go to Travis when the sixth grade was moved to middle school because of my knowledge of him. I never regretted that decision. To Sarah: I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I send you my sympathy and prayers. I had no idea he had passed away until I happened upon the Travis Group page.

Condolence From: Jerry Christian
Condolence: I appreciate the opportunity to have worked for such a good man. My 35 year career in Irving ISD may have been ended within the first five years except for his support and influence. Thank you, sir.

Condolence: John took a chance on this female and gave me my first administrative job at Travis Jr. High. Women were paid less as Asst. Principals then than men were. After I found this out, I told John that I was going to talk to Dr Townley and ask for a raise. When I came back from my meeting, John had covered the Asst. principal sign on my office door with a sign that said "Custodian!" He was my friend and role model throughout my career. I only made one big mistake, I didn't know who Doak Walker was!!

Condolence: Mr. Hamburger was an amazing man. I was lucky enough to know him as a student at Mac and then as a teacher when he was at Travis. I admire the way he knew all his students and faculty on a personal level. He blessed so many lives. Treasure the wonderful memories he left us all.
