Obituary for Oleta Cooper (Thedford)

Oleta Cooper, age 91, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 19, 2018. She was born in Tyler, Texas to Cleburn and Lillian (Shelton) Thedford on Monday, September 19, 1927. Oleta was the first-born child and the only girl of Cleburn and Lillian, which one might say made her life growing up pretty interesting, as well as contributed to her enjoyment of cooking, quilting, and sewing many different things, anywhere from clothing to dolls. Although previously from Tyler, Texas, Oleta made Irving, Texas her home 56 years ago, and raised her children here. She will always be remembered for the wonderful and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who loved spending time with her family above all. Oleta is preceded in death by both her parents, husband of 61 years Ray Cooper Jr., 2 sons Morris and Wayne Cooper and grandson Chris Bumgarner. Left to cherish her memory are son Ray Cooper Jr.; daughter Molly Balcom and husband Fred; grandchildren Lucas Cooper, Cliff Bumgarner and Lauren Modin; great grandchildren Cole Williams, Ashton Modin, Bentley Modin and LochLynn Modin along with numerous extended family and friends. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00pm, Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving. A graveside service will be held 2:00pm, Friday, October 26, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery of Tyler, 12053 State Hwy 64 West. The family request in lieu of flowers that you make a memorial donation to the Lewy Body Dementia in Oleta’s honor, which can be done on our website at www.brownmem.com.
