Obituary for Daniel Franklin "Danny" Messerly

“Danny” Daniel Franklin Messerly, age 70, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio to Frank Durant and Eleanor (McBride) Messerly on Saturday, September 4, 1948. Danny proudly served in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War and continued his devote patriotism to his country even after his honorable discharge in 1974. Although he was not a fan of large crowds, he loved spending any time he could with his family, especially his only granddaughter Danica, whom he adored. Danny will be lovingly remembered for his extremely loving, humble and easy-going personality, great sense of humor and his inability to pass up a good joke. He was a simple man who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and cooking. Danny was a skilled carpenter, and was the epitome of a tinkerer, he was always messing or fixing something. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Eleanor, sister Judy Smith, nephew Michael Messerly and step father Bill Bracken. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 45 years, Sheila Messerly; daughter Laura Smith and husband Eric; son Dan Messerly and wife Brandi; granddaughter Danica Messerly; grandsons Jake and Luke Smith; sister Sue Smithey; sister Linda Gates Sneed and husband Arlis; brother Mike Messerly and wife Tammi along with numerous nieces, nephews, additional extended family and many loving friends. The family will receive friends at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving, between 11:00am and 1:00pm, on Friday, November 23, 2018. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 2:15pm, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mtn Creek Pkwy in Dallas on Friday, November 23, 2018. To honor Danny’s patriotic personality, the family request memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations and condolences can be left on our website at www.brownmem.com.
