Obituary for Rufus Joe "Rooster or R.J." Richardson

Print
Rufus Joe Richardson, age 90, awoke in Heaven on Saturday, December 22, 2018. He was born in Florence, Alabama to Joseph Cornelius and Anna (Springer) Richardson on Wednesday, March 1, 1928. Rufus, also known as “Rooster” to those he worked with and “R.J.” to others, will forever be remembered for the integrity, commitment, honor and loyalty he exhibited throughout his life. Rufus possessed a strong quiet wit, with an analytical mind, and was amazingly resourceful. He believed strongly that one should always be prepared and was dedicated to bettering himself for the sake of his family. The family lovingly tells of his very independent spirit, and that he would pay his way no matter what. He enjoyed working in the yard and playing dominoes, but above all the family fondly remembers the love and enjoyment Rufus found traveling with his family and friends. He was an active man who liked to stay busy, and he firmly believed, acted and taught how things where done the “ole” fashioned way, even one time digging a well in the families back yard “his” way. Rufus proudly served in the U.S. AirForce and was a member of the “Wednesday Guys” church facility team. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna, brothers Rudolph and Oliver Richardson, sisters Delphia Cummings, Pearl Erwin, Alice Quillen, Della Watkins and Lorene Chandler. Left to cherish his memory are wife Remelle Richardson; daughter Durenda Chalmers and husband Tim; daughter Pamela Richardson; grandson Cory James Chalmers; granddaughters Carly Joe Geismar, Shanna Leigh Brady and Shelby King; great granddaughters Karsen Chalmers, Kylie Chalmers, Brinley Geismar, Brooke Geismar, Keaten Geismar and Nova Burnett; great grandson Colton Chalmers along with numerous extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the First Christian Church, 104 W. Grauwyler Road between 11:30am and 12:30pm, with a funeral service beginning at 12:30pm. A committal with Military Honors is scheduled 2:30pm, Friday January 4, 2019 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mtn. Creek Pkwy in Dallas.
