Obituary for Carol Ann Swinney (Smith)

Carol Ann Swinney, age 77, died on Thursday, January 10, 2019. Carol was born on March 25, 1941 in Lubbock, Texas to Dave Smith and Lottie (Hartman) Smith. Carol, affectionately known as “Nana”, loved spending time with her family. She was adventurous and enjoyed chasing ambulances and fire trucks. Nana was one of kind; she taught her grandchildren how to saran wrap cars and play pranks. She liked playing games of all kinds, especially "spoons". She was ornery and good at papering houses. Nana was a thoughtful and giving person as well. She was always available to help others and had a wonderful gift of empathy. Nana had rules and would spank if she needed to, but the hug that followed was always amazing. She was just a lot of fun and could make anything or any situation better. If you met her, you loved her. She possessed a very generous spirit. There is no doubt that she made this world a better place. Nana knew what it meant to live life and prioritize. She was a member of Beltline Church of Christ and was part of the “Bear Team”. She helped at the church with missions printing and also taught bible study. Carol has been reunited with the love of her life and husband of 40 years John Swinney; parents Dave and Lottie Smith; brothers Lloyd Smith and Wallace Smith; and sister Nell Rogers. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Sherri Mitchell; son Steve Swinney and wife Crystal; grandchildren Samantha Harvey and husband Ty, Angela Jarrell and husband Justin, Michael Brau, Kassy DeBord, Kayla Mitchell, Amy Swinney; great grandchildren Kate, Asher, Luke, Jase, and one on the way; as well as many other ‘unofficial’ children, grandchildren and numerous extended family and loving friends.
