Obituary for Rena Josalyn Gonzales

Rena Josalyn Gonzales passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019. Rena Josalyn Gonzales was 20 years old and was born in Dallas, Texas on March 10, 1998 to Ernesto Jesus Gonzales III, and Sylvia Rena Perez. Rena left this world far too early, but not without leaving a lasting mark on those she loved. Rena was a ray of sunshine when you walked into the room. Her beautiful long black hair, purple glasses and smile will forever be missed. Her family and friends will carry on her nicknames, like Pikachu, Honey Bunny and Nae. She loved her family dearly and was especially proud of her brother and sisters. She had a good tight grasp on life and a very positive personality. Rena had a generous spirit and love for people. She had the gift of conversing with anyone and was always looking for ways to help others. It wasn’t uncommon for her to buy food for the homeless or to help any way imaginable. She had an amazing ability to empathize and lift the spirits of others. Rena saw the good in people and never judged those around her. She had a genuine care and concern for all people. She stuck up for the underdog and would not tolerate anyone being picked on. Rena was the sweetest girl in the world but definitely had the ability to be tough when needed. Rena was well balanced in all areas of life, from sports and cheerleading to playing the cello, she was even known as the cello queen. Rena attended college in College Station and came home to continue her 2nd and 3rd quarter as a Junior. She loved reading and was a great student. Rena aspired to do many things, from being an Editor for a Fashion magazine, becoming an Orchestra Teacher, a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader, or even a Doctor. She had goals and a great self determination to see them accomplished. Rena has been reunited with her great grandparents Ernest Gonzales, Guadalupe and Virginia Perez, and Reynaldo Castillo, Amelia Dominguez Gonzales, and Jesus Alfaro Castillo. Left behind to cherish her memory are her parents Ernesto Jesus Gonzales III and Sylvia Rena Perez; brother Ernesto Rey Gonzales IV, sisters Cori Angie-Rena Gonzales and Jami-Love Rena Gonzales; cousin Na’Vae Reyna Perez; great grandmothers Elvira Castillo and Esther Gonzales; grandmothers Sylvia Castillo and Isabel Castillo Gonzales; grandfathers Freddie Perez, Ernest Gonzales, Pedro Morales, Gary Fritts; five Uncles, five Aunts, and twenty-two Cousins; numerous other extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm – 8:00pm, Friday, January 18, 2019 and from 9:00am – 1:00pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the funeral home followed by a tour of memories through out the city.
