Richard Sanchez Garcia Sr., age 78, died on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Richard was born on June 27, 1940, in Dallas, Texas to Elias Garza Garcia Sr. and Geneveve (Sanchez) Garcia. Richard was a family man who loved the excitement of life. He enjoyed dancing to all kinds of music including ballroom and salsa. He was the keeper of family lore and legend, and always knew how to make people smile. He was a mentor to many and active volunteer for the Jaycee Zaragoza Recreation Center senior programs. He felt a strong connection and need to be a part of his community. Richard was a scout master with six Eagle Scouts and a soccer coach for the Vikings and Chargers. Richard cared for his family and went out of his way to make sure they were always taken care of. Richard’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, to whom he was married for 53 years, Mary L. Garcia, parents Elias and Geneveve Garcia, sister Elizabeth Rangel, brothers Elias S. Garcia Jr., David S. Garcia Sr., and son Jesse Puente Garcia. Left to cherish Richard’s memory are children Norma Garcia, Dennise Garcia and husband Eric Folkerth, Richard Sanchez Garcia Jr. and wife Tonya; grandchildren Jonathan, Iszabela, Hope, Tabytha, Kaitlin, Richard III, Christopher, and Maria; great grandchildren Alyson, Alister, Skylar, Brentlee, Emelyne, Johnathan; brother Abel Sanchez Garcia Sr. and loving partner Juanita Ramos; as well as many other extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm with a Rosary to be said at 7:00 pm, Monday, January 28, 2019, at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes church, 5605 Bernal Drive, Dallas, TX 75212 with an interment immediately following at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX 75220. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
