Obituary for Edith "Fern" Lackey (Tinkle)

Edith “Fern” Lackey, at the age of 99, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, August 18, 2019. She was born in Emhouse, Texas to John and Lida Lee (Turner) Tinkle on Thursday, April 8, 1920. Fern lived a long, blessed and humble life. Her door was always open to friends, family and anyone who may need it. Her family fondly remembers the love and devotion she had to her husband J.M. Lackey for over 60 years, and how she loved being a grandmother. Fern always spent as much time with her family as possible, although spending time with her grandkids was always her delight. Fern was a long-time member and dedicated secretary at First Baptist Irving, where she enjoyed teaching others about her faith in Sunday School. Her favorite place to eat was Joe’s Coffee Shop in Irving, where she was a regular. Fern is reunited in Heaven with her parents John and Lida Tinkle, beloved husband J.M. Lackey, son Jay Edwin Lackey, and brothers Edwin, Bill and Buddy Tinkle. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Lida Stark and husband Bill; daughter in law Linda Lackey; brother Nathan Tinkle and wife Dena; grandson Raymond Scott Lackey; grandson Jay Gilmer Lackey; granddaughter Rene Lee (Stark) Roberts and husband Joey; granddaughter Edith Lynn (Stark) Kennedy and husband Chris; grandson Nathan Eric Lackey and wife Emily; great grandkids William James Roberts, Jay Ethan Kennedy, Nathan Edwin Lackey and Caleb Benjamin Lackey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended loving family. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E. Irving Blvd.
