Richard Edward Shrum JR, age 67, died on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Richard was born on October 7, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to Richard Edward Shrum SR and Vlasta (Fridrich) Shrum. To those close to him, Richard was known as “Dick”. Dick was a man of great accomplishment and determination. Although Dick was a quadriplegic, his limitations were never an excuse, he just found new ways to accomplish his goals. Dick was very goal oriented and wasn’t happy until his goals were met. While his disability frustrated him at times, it never held him back. Dick worked hard to receive both his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of North Texas. After receiving his degrees, Dick spent his working career as a vocational counselor in public service. Dick was an active person. He was an avid hunter who really enjoyed his hunting dogs (LABS). Dick was quite the stubborn man, but also very family oriented. He grew up in Irving, Texas but was a good ole country boy at heart. He loved being outside whenever possible. For some time, he and a friend raised and bred Mouflon Sheep. Richard is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are wife of 38 years Doris Shrum; daughters Jaime Bybee of Weatherford, Cassie Clair and husband Ryan of Plano; brother Michael Shrum and wife Dianne of Kerens; grandchildren Dylan, Easton, Brianne, Cooper, Jack, Mia; one great granddaughter Kinley; as well as numerous other extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas 75061. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the funeral home with an interment immediately following at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas 75243. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross.
